Writing errors are something everyone has encountered. These mistakes happen to everyone, from typos to spelling mistakes and not knowing the correct word to too many grammar nuances that are difficult to remember.
A writing instructor or editor is a great way to correct any errors. (I admit that I am an editor, so it’s possible for me to be biased. However, it’s true. There is no substitute to the knowledge and expertise of a live, human being who understands how language works and can help your ideas be conveyed in the most effective possible manner.
A grammar checker software like ProWritingAid, which is affordable and accessible, can be used if an editor isn’t accessible to you.
ProWritingAid’s Editor’s Recommendation
I’ve heard great things about ProWritingAid from writers I believe in. I was a bit skeptical, but that’s since I’m an editor. Software can it truly recognize all my errors? It could be used in lieu of an editor who is human. It could help writers identify and correct writing issues and help them improve their writing.
I will admit, however, that I also was thinking I was wondering if my writing could be so perfect that ProWritingAid could not come across anything to critique?
ProWritingAid I wanted to try it myself to see how it performed.

ProWritingAid Review – The Basics
A brief introduction: what is ProWritingAid?
ProWritingAid is described as “a grammar guru as well as a style editor and writing mentor all in all in one box.” It’s a piece of writing software that functions as a complex system of grammar checkers, spelling checkers, and style checks.
ProWritingAid is designed specifically for writers, editors and copywriters as well as professionals and students. It will help you write better, regardless of how experienced or novice you are to writing.

Grammar and Spelling Checkers
ProWritingAid’s primary features form the basis of all writing software. It provides spelling and grammar checking tools that are more comprehensive than Microsoft Word.
In red for spelling and in blue for grammar, errors are highlighted. My favorite feature is that if you click on an underlined word, a box appears with a suggested correction, as well as an explanation for why it suggests the correction.

Robust Reports on Your Writing
So far, so good. At this point, I will admit that I felt fairly confident of my skills as an editor to improve ProWritingAid.
It gave me an analysis I wouldn’t have been able to gather without ProWritingAid.
Below, I have listed a few ProWritingAid reports, dictionaries and checkers. They only scratch the surface of what ProWritingAid offers.
There are a variety of reports that can be used to analyse and enhance your writing. I’m not going to go through all of them however I’d like to highlight a few of my favorites.
Writing Style Report
This report may be the best to swiftly and easily correct any spelling or grammar mistakes. Writing Style report Writing Style report evaluates your writing for adjustments that can improve its readability. It highlights the elements that are part of the writing style, for example:
Passive voice
Hidden verbs
Adverbs are often used in excess.
It is possible to repeat the exact sentence many times
In an introductory glance, it will show you exactly where you can make small tweaks to your writing to enhance the style and provide an improved user experience for the readers.
The Word Count Report & Sentence Length Report
Word counters are a standard tool for writing, but the Sentence Length reports are far more effective.
Yes, it’ll count all words and characters in the document. It will show every word of each sentence in an visually illuminated. It will show the length of a typical sentence and any variations, and it will warn of any long sentences.
Even if you know exactly what you’re trying to communicate, it can be difficult for people to comprehend your message. Sentence length reports can be an effective tool to spot confusing lines and help you cut them into smaller pieces.
Three Reports to End Repetition
ProWritingAid includes not only one but three reports that assist you in identifying frequently used words.
The Overused Words report marks any words that are commonly used and can make readers stop. You will be able to determine the number of instances you have to delete so that they aren’t repeated. You can even see how your style compares to other published writing.
The All Repeats report can mark words and phrases of up to four words that you have used multiple times in your writing. These phrases and words aren’t necessarily repeated, but it is useful to be aware of what you frequently repeat.
Echoes will report any repeated words or phrases. You will also be able to find alternative words to break up repeated words.
The Sentence Structure Report
I find the Sentence Structure reports fascinating. It shows how to structure your sentences and lets you see which parts are repeated.
37 percent of my sentences have a subject, and none of them begin with the word gerund. This isn’t a problem, but I find it useful to be aware of ways to increase variety in my writing.
The Pacing Report
This is the report I was surprised to see, but so glad that it came. The Pacing reports are a fantastic tool for authors who are creative.
A little backstory is fine but if you go overboard, you’ll begin to bore your readers. The tool highlights any slow sections of your writing so that you can quickly see if they are too long or too short.
The Plagiarism Report
Plagiarism is a major concern for writers, is the Plagiarism Report. ProWritingAid has scanned millions of books, articles, and academic papers, and it will analyze your writing for patterns that are found in different documents.
Unlike other ProWritingAid reports, the plagiarism checker isn’t part of the standard Premium package. You can upgrade your Premium Plus package to get fifty checks for plagiarism each year and you can also purchase checks that are only needed.
The House Report
Do you write for an organisation with a stylebook for the house? ProWritingAid will review your writing for any specific guidelines or patterns.
The House report is a blank document that which you can modify to make it completely yours. Simply tell ProWritingAid what you would like to be able to study and it will create a report.
Examine the Content of Your Heart
While I’ve listed nine reports by ProWritingAid however, this is just one of the tools capabilities. You should take a look at the entire list or join an initial trial for free to play with it.
These reports will help you to be as precise as you can in your writing analysis. Explore the depths of readability with the Readability report, and then nitpick each inconsistency using the Consistency report or just correct grammar mistakes and then move on to the Grammar report.
Whatever type of writing you’re working on there’s a report to help you refine your piece and become a better writer.
Where can I find ProWritingAid?
You can access the ProWritingAid editor directly from the ProWritingAid website. You can either create your own writing using the editor, or take it and copy it from a different document.
However, you are not limited to ProWritingAid’s site. It is possible to download a plugin that will permit ProWritingAid to analyze your writing in any word processor, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Scrivener.
The Chrome extension can be downloaded and your own personal writer will be following you around the internet. Don’t worry about mistakes appearing in your status updates on Facebook.

The Editor’s Caveat
I will add one caveat.
Grammar checkers are made to help you spot issues in your writing and offer solutions. ProWritingAid is a masterful job at analyzing context and usage and recommending the most effective solutions. That said, as with other grammar checkers, it’s essential that, when using it, you take every suggestion with care and feel free to reject any that aren’t helpful.
Whatever grammar checker you select If you simply accept every change it suggests, you will introduce new mistakes in your writing. Grammar checkers are not intended to replace editors.
These tools will get you closer to editing your piece of writing. The ProWritingAid features go far beyond grammar checkers I think it’s an essential tool for any writer.
Verdict Do you think this editor would recommend ProWritingAid as a recommendation?
To be truthful, I was doubtful person when I first began. An editor who is competent is something I am adamant in. With the many reports ProWritingAid offers I’m not convinced that there’s ever going to be a complete replacement for the human element.
